DCCU Shred Days help fight hunger

Spring 2019 Shred Days Net Record-Breaking Food Bank Donations

WAYNESBORO, VA (July 8, 2019) — Shredding documents is one of the best ways to prevent personal information from falling into the wrong hands.  To support the community in this effort, DuPont Community Credit Union (DCCU) partners with H&R Contractors, Inc. twice a year to host Shred Days at branch locations throughout the Shenandoah Valley.

DCCU Shred Days are an open invitation for the community to bring personal documents to be shredded for free. While shred events are becoming more common, DCCU differentiates itself by asking participants to bring a food or monetary donation for the Blue Ridge Area Food Bank.

DCCU’s Spring Shred Days collected enough food and funds to provide 15,838 meals for families in need, surpassing the meal totals for the entire year in 2018.

“The growing popularity of our Shred Days and the generosity of the participants is remarkable,” said Steve Elkins, DCCU’s President and Chief Executive Officer. “DCCU is committed to community give back. By donating our Shred Day proceeds to the Blue Ridge Area Food Bank, we are able to help those who struggle to feed their family.”

DCCU will host Shred Days again in the Fall of 2019.
