DCU team members pack 32,000 meals for area food pantries

Each day, 41 million Americans are unaware of where their next meal is coming from. On Tuesday, September 18th, 240 employees from Digital Federal Credit Union, better known as DCU, banded together to package 32,000 meals in partnership with The Outreach Program and End Hunger NE to help eliminate that statistic. With the help of DCU team members, The Outreach Program packaged their 26 millionth meal.

In support of The Outreach Program’s mission of ending hunger and enriching lives, DCU team members happily formed assembly lines inside their Marlborough Operations Center where they prepared and sealed packages of: macaroni and cheese, minestrone, beans and rice and apple cinnamon oatmeal. DCU sponsored 20,000 meals and the remainder were sponsored by Old Sol of Manchester, NH and the Wellesley, MA Congregational United Church of Christ.

DCU distributed a portion of the packaged meals to Lawrence, MA-area food pantries to support individuals and families displaced by the recent Merrimack Valley natural gas explosions. In addition, meals were also donated to the South Middlesex Opportunity Council which will be distributed to local communities across the Commonwealth of Massachusetts.

DCU strives to make a profound impact in the community through supporting local businesses, volunteering, and donating to programs that play an integral role in the lives of children, families, and veterans. Tuesday’s meal packing was just another example of DCU’s ongoing commitment to making a meaningful difference in the communities where their members live and work.
