Desert Schools Announces $2 Million Raised For Children’s Miracle Network, Phoenix Children’s Hospital

15th Annual golf tournament raises more than $304,000, marks fundraising threshold benefitting ‘1 Darn Cool School’ initiative at PCH –

PHOENIX, AZ (July 15, 2013) — Desert Schools Federal Credit Union, the largest not-for-profit membership-based financial institution in the state of Arizona, announced fundraising totals for its 15th annual charity golf tournament. The Children’s Miracle Network and Phoenix Children’s Hospital have remained the beneficiaries since the event’s inaugural year in 1998.

The 2013 tournament raised nearly $305,000, bringing Desert Schools’ composited donation to more than $2 Million since the event’s inception, benefitting CMN’s 1 Darn Cool School. On event day more than 175 players from both local and national businesses came together to support a great cause.

The Children’s Miracle Network is an international non-profit organization that raises funds for children’s hospitals, medical research and community awareness of children’s health issues.

The credit union’s contribution will help fund the 1 Darn Cool School Program at Phoenix Children’s Hospital, an initiative to help kids keep up with their schoolwork during their stay in the hospital. The school makes it possible for the hospital’s patients to be productive in a positive and encouraging environment, promoting both physical and mental health with lowered anxiety levels.

Ron Amstutz, Executive Vice President of Desert Schools Federal Credit Union said, “We look forward to this annual event more and more each year, and are so proud of the work the Children’s Miracle Network is able to do in part because of the generosity of the Desert Schools community. With 15 successful years of supporting a great cause under our belts with this event, we hope to continue making impactful strides to support the children and youth in the Valley. What better way than offering the patients of Phoenix Children’s a positive way to stay committed to education?”

Phoenix Children’s Hospital is Arizona’s only licensed children’s hospital, providing world-class inpatient, outpatient, trauma, emergency and urgent care to children and families in Arizona and throughout the Southwest. As one of the largest children’s hospitals in the country, Phoenix Children’s provides care across over 70 pediatric specialties and is poised for continued growth in quality patient care, research and medical education.

Desert Schools Federal Credit Union has built its foundation on a fundamental passion for taking an active role in the community by giving back. The credit union remained committed to giving back financially in 2012 and coordinated fundraising efforts with employees, vendors and partners to give back more than $770,000 to the community, raising $395,000 for the Children’s Miracle Network, $244,000 for the United Way and $110,000 in community grants last year.
