DigitalMailer Discounts Online Storage Service to Recognize World Backup Day

E-strategy firm notes that one-third of women, one-fifth of men fail to back up their data

HERNDON, VA (March 14, 2013) – DigitalMailer, Inc. wants people to think about the volumes of data they generate – and fail to backup – each day.

To raise awareness of the need to back up digital content, the e-strategy and marketing firm is promoting World Backup Day, which falls on March 31, by encouraging financial institutions to provide online storage options to their customers or members. DigitalMailer is also offering special discounts this month to users of its My Virtual StrongBox® online storage service.

According to the World Backup Day website, consumers should save their files regularly – once a year is not enough. A 2012 Seagate/Harris Interactive study found that while 90 percent of people consider their digital content valuable, 30 percent of women and 19 percent of men never back up their files. And among those who do, just 10 percent perform daily back up.

The World Backup Day site suggests working with an online storage provider as “possibly the most reliable way to keep your files safe.” DigitalMailer believes financial institutions are well-suited to fill this role.

“Credit unions and banks already serve as gatekeepers of many important financial documents, and they subscribe to high security and authentication practices,” said Ron Daly, DigitalMailer’s President/CEO. “Also, using general cloud storage providers can carry risk. They provide no ownership rights to store your documents and give you no control over where your materials are stored in the cloud.”

To reiterate the importance of backing up data and in recognition of World Backup Day, DigitalMailer is discounting its pricing on upgrading storage space 25 percent for its partner financial institutions that offer My Virtual StrongBox. Institutions can then pass the savings on to their users of the service.

My Virtual StrongBox, a Software-as-a-Service, is designed to help consumers safeguard important documents such as wills, deeds, insurance papers, family photographs and other valuable items by loading them into protected online document libraries.
