Donations to Credit Union Miracle Day Surpass $6 Million Mark
Credit Union Cherry Blossom Ten Mile Run Highlights Support for Children’s Miracle Network Hospitals
ST. PETERSBURG, FL (April 11, 2013) – Credit Union Miracle Day, Inc. (CUMD), the national organization that represents credit unions as the title sponsor of a family of road races, announced that the contribution of $483,000 in 2013 pushed the total amount donated over the past 12 years to the Children’s Hospital Network past the $6 million mark. Approximately $112,000 alone was raised by runners and their families and friends in 2013.
“We are very proud of how credit unions and their business partners, including our lead partner, PSCU, and runners have all united and collaborated to raise funds for Children’s Miracle Network Hospitals under the umbrella of Credit Unions for Kids,” CUMD Chairman Juri Valdov said.
Since 2008, PSCU has served as lead partner for CUMD races and helped to underwrite sponsorship expenses to optimize donations to local Children’s Miracle Network Hospitals across the U.S. CUMD’s Family of Races includes the flagship Credit Union Cherry Blossom Ten Mile Run®, the Credit Union SacTown Ten-Mile Run in Sacramento‚ California and two Freedom Runs for our troops overseas.
In addition to the more than 15,000 runners in DC, nearly 1,700 runners ran in the Credit Union SacTown Ten-Mile Run in Sacramento on April 7, and over 1,000 runners participate in the two Credit Union Freedom Runs. The Camp Arifjan Freedom Run in Kuwait, also held on April 7, was sponsored by the Defense Credit Union Council Overseas Subcouncil. The Army Garrison Wiesbaden Freedom Run in Germany which will be held on April 20, is sponsored by Andrews FCU.
When credit unions and business partners sponsor CUMD’s Family of Races‚ they are supporting all the races. The funds raised through donations of sponsors and consumers help the Children’s Miracle Network Hospitals provide comfort, treatment and hope to millions of sick kids each year.
Race organizers hosted a Play Day for patients at Children’s National Medical Center on April 5. The kids enjoyed a break from medical treatment to have some fun doing arts and crafts with credit union volunteers. “The work that the Children’s Hospitals are doing for kids all across the country is profoundly remarkable,” said Fredda McDonald, PSCU’s EVP of Credit Union Experience and CUMD board member. “When you visit the Children’s National Medical Center and learn first-hand the level of research that is being invested in treatments and cures for the children’s illnesses, you cannot help but be moved by the hope that Credit Union Miracle Day’s fund raising efforts give to these kids and their families. It is the caring nature and generosity of the entire credit union community that makes that hope possible.”
The 2014 edition of the CUMD Family of Races is set to take place on April 6, 2014.
