At the end of September a group of Dover Federal Credit Union employees traveled to the nation’s capital where they met with the Consumer Financial Protection Bureau as well as Delaware legislators. These meetings were part of the Credit Union National Association’s 2019 “Hike the Hill” in which credit union representatives from various states come together to form one collective voice and advocate for credit unions and their members. Dover Federal has taken part in “Hike the Hill” for several years and continues to advocate for their members by demonstrating that credit unions are made up of people who have consumers best interest at heart.
In addition to Hike the Hill, Dover Federal has worked effortlessly in the advocacy field. This has included hosting both Senator Tom Carper and Senator Chris Coons at their headquarters to discuss the work they are doing to help their members, proposed bills that could affect credit unions, and how government could help members in the state of Delaware. During his visit at Dover Federal, Senator Coons presented the credit union with a letter of recognition for their Shutdown Assistance Loan which was offered in January of 2019 during the government shutdown. This loan provided assistance for government employees who were directly affected by it with a 60 day interest free repayment period that began at the end of the shutdown.
