Educators Credit Union opens a new high school branch

MT. PLEASANT, WI (October 4, 2018) — Educators Credit Union unveiled its latest high school branch last week at Racine Park High School.

The newest high school branch is yet another exceptional opportunity for Educators Credit Union. Students at the school will have direct access to the credit union during lunch hours, where they can open a new account, deposit or withdraw money, and learn essential financial literacy lessons.

“One of the things we know is financial literacy can go a long way in helping young people have financial success later in life,” says Educators Credit Union Director of Community Engagement Victor Frasher. “We are using tools to teach kids how to take charge of their money and how to manage it the right way out of the gate.”

Financial lessons will be taught at the branch and in the classroom. Educators Credit Union staff will go inside the school’s classrooms to directly speak with students about the importance of proper money management, how to build savings, and about essential financial programs like credit and debt.

While the whole school gets this special opportunity, a group of more than 10 students gets hands-on work experience managing these branches. These students will be responsible for the day-to-day operations of the branch, the marketing initiatives the school uses to promote the service and communicate the importance of money management to their peers.

“The students working the branch are going to get an in-depth knowledge of finances,” said Park High School’s Ally Becker, the teacher supervising the students at the branch. “They are going to get great work experience and be able to spread financial awareness to their peers.”

The students working the branch know it’s an excellent opportunity for them, especially in high school.

“I’m excited for the opportunity to help my school and my community,” said Park High School student Xavier Golden. “It will be interesting to see how many students open an account and get better with their finances.”

The Park High School branch is Educators’ fourth high school branch and second in Racine Unified School District.
