Energy FCU Offers Innovative Financial Products Promoting Energy Conservation

Energy Federal Credit Union is at the forefront of “green banking,” offering innovative financial products designed to promote energy conservation while also serving financial needs.

“Whether it’s building green, driving green or using green appliances, Energy FCU helps members live environmentally friendly lives – while saving them some ‘green,’ too,” said Marilyn Davis, EFCU’s Vice President of Lending and Collections. “We believe that making energy-efficient improvements in your life doesn’t have to cost more than you save in energy efficiency.”

The credit union backs up its energy conservation policy with a complete line-up of financial products and services:

  • For those seeking to purchase appliances that are energy-efficient or who want to make energy-efficient improvements to their home, Energy FCU offers a Green Energy Signature Loan. The low-cost loan features amounts up to $25,000 and terms up to 84 months.
  • A Solar or Geo-Thermal System Loan is a real estate-secured, fixed-rate loan with 5-, 10- or 15-year terms designed for people installing these energy-efficient systems in their homes. This loan may also qualify for a rebate at settlement.
  • Energy FCU encourages purchase of hybrid and alternative fuel vehicles by offering a full 1% discount off of an applicant’s qualifying loan rate for these types of vehicles.
  •  “Green banking” includes a full range of paperless services offered for free by Energy FCU. Online banking, online bill pay, eStatements, mobile banking, direct deposit, eCheck debit card and more are available.
  • On-site paper shredding events are held twice a year, spring and fall, and are open at no cost to the community. To encourage proper disposal of unneeded paper, EFCU imposes no limits on amounts that individuals may bring to be shredded – unusual for a community shred event.
  • The credit union educates members about energy conservation tax credits and rebates offered at the state and federal levels on its website.
  • As you might expect, Earth Day is a major celebration for Energy FCU. This year, members will be treated to an Earth Day Extravaganza from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. April 6 at the Shady Grove Branch parking lot. The credit union also participates in the U.S. Department of Energy’s Earth Day celebrations.

Energy Federal Credit Union is a not-for-profit, federally insured financial institution with more than 13,000 members and assets of more than $108 million. Employees of the U.S. Department of Energy, US Nuclear Regulatory Commission and many other organizations and companies are eligible to obtain membership. Energy FCU welcomes the opportunity to show interested people how to become a member. Visit www.energyfcu.org or call 800-223-2177 for more information on products, services and membership.
