FEMA announces additional $30 million for South Carolina recovery

ATLANTA, GA (July 10, 2026) |

FEMA approved more than $30 million in funding to support 13 recovery and mitigation projects in South Carolina communities affected by Hurricane Helene and other disasters.

The approved funding is provided through FEMA’s Building Resilient Infrastructure and Communities (BRIC), Public Assistance and Hazard Mitigation Grant Programs.

FEMA is awarding $29.7 million for 11 Public Assistance projects to reimburse communities for the costs of debris removal, critical infrastructure repair and emergency protective measures. Notable projects include:

  • $8.1 million to Roper Hospital, Inc. for emergency protective measures taken to prevent or reduce the spread of COVID-19.
  • $7.3 million to South Carolina Department of Transportation for Hurricane Helene management costs.
  • $6.5 million to South Carolina Department of Transportation to repair Indian Camp, Middle Willow, Buffalo Pond and Deer Trail roads damaged by the November 2024 severe storms and flooding.
  • $4.3 million to Greenville County for debris removal efforts following Hurricane Helene.
  • $1.2 million to Aiken Electric Cooperative, Inc. for disaster management costs.
  • $1 million to South Carolina Department of Transportation to repair Bonner Lake, Sample, Freeman Bridge roads and South Johnson Street damaged by Hurricane Helene.

Today’s announcement includes a $140,000 Hazard Mitigation Grant Program award to the state of South Carolina for the Lower Mill drainage study.

FEMA is also awarding $160,000 in BRIC grant funding to develop a project to reduce the risk of infrastructure failure in Greenville.
