In November 2021, Financial Plus Credit Union’s HR Information Systems Administrator, Jenny McDowell, and her family sold their home, packed up their belongings, and permanently hit the road in their new RV. Since then, Jenny and her family have been traveling the country while she works remotely.
"When Jenny talked about her dream of traveling this winter with her family, we thought-Why not? Jenny’s skill set is vital to the success of our HR team. Her versatility with recruitment, project management and technology skills make her an asset whether she’s here in Flint or off adventuring in Texas and Florida! Jenny’s family began their journey in Texas where they stayed in Dallas and Fort Worth. While in Texas they ate at amazing BBQ places, Hurtado notably being her favorite, went to a few rodeos, horseback riding, played at arcades, a water park, and the aquarium. While on the road in Texas Jenny worked to implement a new Performance Management system that launched in December.
Earlier this month Jenny and her family left Texas and drove their RV to Orlando, Florida. Throughout their stay they hope to visit Disney World, Sea World, and the ocean. Meanwhile, Jenny will simultaneously work on payroll, benefit management, recruiting, HRIS management, employee engagement, and overall employee relations.
“I am grateful Financial Plus gave me the ability to work remotely during this season and have this time to travel with my family,” remarked Jenny. They have had a blast exploring and sharing new experiences.
Overall, Jenny’s favorite part about her experience has been the priceless time with family. Her son Malcolm is 7 years old and is currently homeschooling, and daughter Madeline is 2 years old. Working remote for Financial Plus Credit Union has provided Jenny with the opportunity to create lasting memories with her family while simultaneously continuing to grow her career.
