First annual Newaygo County Cancer Walk joins White Cloud Trail Time celebration

FREMONT, MI (September 28, 2018) — Local residents gathered together at the White Cloud County Park during the Trail Time Celebration to walk in remembrance of loved ones who lost their battle with cancer and to celebrate those who have survived! Participants were all given a free 2018 Newaygo County Cancer Walk t-shirt made possible by generous local sponsors: Dewey Builders, Gerber Federal Credit Union, Gerber Products Company, Powergraphics and Silk Screening and Spectrum Health Gerber Memorial.

Before over 60 walkers began their 2 mile trek though town, Sue Splitstone of Gerber Federal Credit Union shared her cancer survival story.  Splitstone started out “The first Relay for Life that I can remember that really impacted my life and my husband’s was in June 2007…Watching my mom and older sister walking the survivors lap…I remember saying to my husband ‘that could be me someday’.”  “That following June [there I was] doing the survivor lap along with my mom and sister.”  She finished with “So…let’s now walk together and celebrate, honor and remember those who have been touched by cancer.”
