In October 2018, First Financial Federal Credit Union made a donation of $50,000 to the Boys and Girls Club of Westminster (BGCW) for its Power Hour program. On December 18, 2018, they came back to see the impact of their donation and Power Hour at the BGCW’s Youth of the Month Ceremony.
First Financial attended BGCW’s Youth of the Month Ceremony to help the organization celebrate their students’ academic progress and shine a spotlight on those youth who are stepping into leadership roles. At the invitation of BGCW, First Financial representatives Vice President and Chief Marketing Officer Stephanie Peltzer, Youth Outreach Manager Cindy Jones, and Youth Outreach Coordinator Kim Williams greeted and congratulated students on their many achievements.
“We want our partnership with the Boys & Girls Club to be about much more than funding the Power Hour; we’re their partner in helping the kids succeed,” stated Peltzer. “Joining in their recognition ceremony allowed us to see first-hand the impact our donation has had on the kids in this program, and knowing our support is helping them reach their greatest potential.”
Power Hour plays a large role in the academic success that is celebrated at the Youth of the Month Ceremony by providing the kids with a supportive environment where they can develop leadership skills and work on school work. The Power Hour program has yielded measurable academic improvement for participating students. As a group, approximately 85% of the students in the program are passing their math classes this quarter, while just under 90% are passing their language arts classes. Students from four of the participating schools are boasting a passing rate between 80% and 100% for math and 90% to 100% for language arts.
