Foundation’s Charity Golf Tournament raises over $115K for Service Members
HANSCOM AFB, MA (October 2, 2020) — Hanscom Federal Credit Union Charitable Foundation held its 6th Annual Alan M. Hart Memorial Charity Golf Classic at Red Tail Golf Club in Devens, MA, on September 21, 2020. The Classic was sponsored by 21 companies and organizations, including title sponsor Allied Solutions, and raised over $115,000, part of the Foundation’s $750,000 commitment to support Home Base over five years. Home Base is a Red Sox Foundation and Massachusetts General Hospital Program dedicated to healing the invisible wounds of war for veterans, service members, and their families through world-class clinical care, wellness, education, and research.
This year’s Classic featured several changes to accommodate social distancing, including rolling start times to space golfers out across the course and serving all meals outdoors on the club’s spacious deck and lawn. The annual silent auction, typically held indoors, was held online ahead of the event. Another popular feature of the tournament is a liquor-putting contestthat features beverage prizes sponsored by August A. Busch and Co. and Smokey Quartz Distillery.This year’s putting contest, combined with the silent auction, raised over $5,000 in support for Home Base.
Paul Marotta, chairman of Hanscom FCU Charitable Foundation, Inc. and chairman emeritus of Hanscom Federal Credit Union, said of the event, “I’m proud that the Foundation was able to continue on with this event and our commitment to Home Base while maintaining a high regard for the safety of every participant. It’s wonderful to see so many people participate safely for such an important cause. Home Base provides countless programs for veterans, and the work they’re doing, especially now, is more important than ever.”
