Fremont Federal Credit Union to break ground on new headquarters

Fremont, OH (October 6, 2025) |

Fremont Federal Credit Union will officially break ground for its new headquarters,  this Thursday, October 9, 2025. A formal groundbreaking ceremony will take place, starting at 11:45 AM at the construction site of their new location at 134 South 5th Street on the east bank of the  Sandusky River.

The event will include Fremont Federal Credit Union’s Board of Directors, Executive Team, Branch  Management, and representatives from Janotta & Herner. Other special guests and dignitaries expected to attend include: Ohio House Representative Gary Click; Tim Schneider, the Northwest  Ohio Regional Director of Senator Bernie Moreno’s office; and representatives of the Mayor’s Office  of the City of Fremont, Downtown Fremont, and Sandusky County.

On May 28, 2025, Fremont Federal Credit Union announced the new headquarters location. “Since  1994, 315 Croghan Street has served as the hub for delivering the best advice, best service, and best  products to promote healthy financial living. Over the years, we've grown in both size and strength,  expanding our services, welcoming new team members, and deepening our roots in the  communities we serve. Our current location was built more than one hundred years ago, and while  it is a beautiful historic building, it does not efficiently meet our current or future needs. As proud as  we are of our history, it’s time to build a future-ready space that reflects our vision and supports the  exceptional work our employees do every day,” said Nick Cray, CEO of Fremont Federal Credit Union.

The new property is being developed by design and build firm, Janotta & Herner, based in Monroeville,  Ohio. It is being thoughtfully designed to meet the evolving needs of Fremont Federal Credit Union  with more collaborative workspaces, upgraded technology, and room to grow, and is expected to be  a catalyst for innovation and continued excellence. The project will also bring new opportunities for  local contractors and professionals to contribute to Fremont’s growth and revitalization. Local government has given its full support for this big move. Fremont Mayor Daniel R. Sanchez said,  “The City of Fremont is excited for Fremont Federal Credit Union as they make this large investment. It is not only an investment in themselves, but also an investment in our community. Their plan of  purchasing property that was in need revitalization demonstrates their commitment to Fremont. As  my team and I work to attract new developments daily, I believe this project will spark more good  things to happen in our community.”

Site preparation work for the new headquarters began in June and included the demolition and  clearing of the former Kroger’s grocery store that stood at that location and was vacant for several years. The bulk of the construction will take place in 2026 during the year of Fremont Federal Credit  Union’s 80th anniversary. The anticipated move-in date of early 2027.

As a member-owned credit union, Fremont Federal Credit Union is committed to giving back. Earlier  this year, the board voted to return $500,000 to its members through a special dividend, which was distributed by June 30th. Membership is open to anyone who lives, works, worships, or attends school  in Sandusky, Ottawa, Seneca, Wood, Hancock, Lucas, and Fulton counties.

On May 5th of this year, Fremont Federal Credit Union celebrated the grand opening of its seventh  branch location in Bowling Green, Ohio, and its first in Wood County. At the event, they announced  their 3-year partnership agreement to be the presenting sponsor of “The Battle of I-75” Rivalry Series between the Bowling Green State University Falcons and the University of Toledo Rockets. That  celebration commences this Saturday, October 11th, at 12pm at Doyt L. Perry Stadium in Bowling  Green as the two schools take on each other in football. In honor of the occasion, the BGSU and UoT  mascots are expected to be present and greet guests at Thursday’s groundbreaking.

“As Fremont Federal Credit Union grows, one thing remains the same: a commitment to the people  and communities we serve. We’re proud to call Fremont home and look forward to serving our  members – new and longtime – build brighter financial futures through our new facility,” said Cray.
