David Mills, a Southland Credit Union Advisory Committee member who also served on the credit union’s Board of Directors and Supervisory Committee, is stepping down from his role after more than five decades of service.
Over the span of 51 years, from 1967 to 2018,his titles included Committee Member, Committee Chair, Board Member, Secretary/Treasurer of the Board of Directors, Chairman of many sub-committees and Chairman of the Board of Directors.
With his guidance and leadership, he provided Southland with financial and operational success, resulting in the credit union’s now exceptional financial condition.
During his time, Southland’s assets grew into the top 7% of all credit unions in the nation. The overall Membership grew to more than 60,000.
“Dave has been a champion for our Members and the credit union movement for 51 years,” Southland Credit Union Chief Executive Officer Thomas Lent said. “He is a perfect example of what our credit union is all about – People Helping People. I have personally benefited from his guidance and sincerely thank him for his service to Southland.”
Southland’s Board of Directors recognized G. David Mills for his 51 years of service, wished him well and thanked him for his work, leadership, community spirit, expertise and commitment.
“David Mills is an institution,” Chair of the Board Angie Avery said. “His exemplary service to Southland Credit Union is unmatched. Dave will be remembered as a Board Member who served Southland with tireless enthusiasm. We are grateful for his service, his leadership and his longevity as a volunteer.”
