Georgia United Credit Union celebrates 60 years of service

Georgia United Credit Union, one of the largest and strongest credit unions in Georgia is celebrating their 60th anniversary this year.  Since 1958, Georgia United has been serving Georgia families and improving the communities surrounding its branch locations.

Originally established as DeKalb County Teachers Federal Credit Union by Vernon Carne and five DeKalb County educators, the credit union later reestablished to a state charter in 2010 to allow for a wider county reach and was renamed Georgia United Credit Union.  Through continued growth, the field of membership has expanded to include a wide list of communities, partnerships and school systems throughout the state.

Through the leadership of President and CEO, Debbie Smith, Georgia United serves over 160,000 with 1.3+ billion in assets. Smith stated, “We are honored to celebrate this 60 year milestone with our members. We know that although our members have options, they have chosen to be a part of the Georgia United family. That’s what makes these moments so special and what drives us to continue to innovate and give back to our communities. It’s our privilege to help our members make their financial dreams a reality.”

In August, the credit union announced another milestone, noting $1,000,000 in cash back rewards that has been given to members through the Georgia United VISA® Cash Back Credit Card. Since its inception in 2015, the credit card has become one of the credit union’s more popular products, offering members cash back on all purchases without exclusions or fees.

To celebrate their 60th anniversary, Georgia United will hold a contest August 1 through August 31, 2018, giving away a total of $6,000. Sixty (60) winners will be randomly selected to receive a $100 gift card through a drawing. Membership is not required for participation. Visit gucu.org/60years for full contest details.
