Global Citizens Community Day: Working for a Purpose

SPOKANE, WA (August 27, 2018) — On August 21, 2018, Global employees took the workday to volunteer in our community.   This year, we replaced a workday in the office for a workday in our community.  Employees volunteered at a variety of locations.

Five teams volunteered at local VFW Posts, cleaning and hosting social events.  “I am so happy to be giving back to our military, especially since they give so much to us,” said Sarah, a Member Services Representative at GlobalFairchild. “I loved being able to bring a smile to the Veterans.” said Sheridan, a Member Services Representative at Global’s Member Contact Center.  Sarah and Sheridan, along with four other Global employees, volunteered at the VFW Post in Airway Heights hosting their Taco Tuesday social.

Another team of 15 employees delivered to homebound seniors for Meals on Wheels, Spokane.  A common comment on the team was that delivering and spending time with the seniors was incredibly rewarding.  Three employees worked in MOWs pet room, packaging up pet food for the pets of the homebound seniors.

The team in Couer d’Alene assembled household goods for transitioning homeless Veterans.  Each Veteran received a plastic laundry basket filled with towels, toilet paper, cleaning supplies and other goods that would help someone set up a new residence.

Finally, a team of employees packaged treats for deployed troops. Commander Bagnell of the Navy Operational Support Center, Spokane, dropped by with sailors and helped the team package over 1000 care packages.

Global Citizens Community Day is a celebration of Global’s year-round promise of Working for a Purpose.

Global is committed to making a positive impact within our communities. Year-round, Global Credit Union employees volunteer and maintain a personal connection within our communities.  In 2017, employees worked with more than 50 community partners and volunteered more than 2400 hours.  This spirit of community and volunteerism has led us to the Global Citizens Community Day, one of the many ways Global shows our commitment to the communities where we have a presence year-round.

The Global Citizen principle is dedicated to Working for a Purpose, not only with our members and co-workers, but also our community partners.  Our goal is to spark attention to and strengthen America’s Military and Veterans Community as well as our community as a whole.
