Great Lakes Credit Union hires new President/CEO
BANNOCKBURN, IL (April 20, 2018) — Great Lakes Credit Union (GLCU) is proud to announce the selection of Steven J. Bugg as its new President/CEO effective May 21, 2018.
Steve has been serving as Executive Vice-President of Heritage Federal Credit Union in Newburgh, Indiana. Most recently, he has been responsible for the functional areas of marketing, public relations, business development, retail operations, the branch network, facilities, security, and the investment division.
Steve began his career in banking, with experience in consumer, indirect, mortgage and commercial lending, along with branch management.
He then transitioned into the telecom industry, where he was responsible for marketing, alternative distribution, strategy, sales and operations for several organizations. He leveraged that corporate experience with his shift to the credit union world, where he has served over 10 years in multiple executive leadership roles.

Steve has been heavily involved in the community serving in a Leadership and Committee member role for the University of Evansville. He is also the current President of the Evansville Zoological Society, Inc. a/k/a Mesker Park Botanic Garden and Zoo; and, is actively involved with Historic Newburgh, Inc., the go-to resource for what is happening in Newburgh, Indiana as a member of the Economic Progress Committee. Steve also served as President of the Reitz Home Museum Board and continues to volunteer in the local communities supporting local non-profit organizations.
He graduated from the University of Evansville with a BA in Business Administration / Marketing and is also a 2011 Graduate of The ProCon Leadership Institute for Cooperatives focusing in on development of aspiring CEOs.
Steve Bugg stated, “I am very humbled and privileged to be selected to serve as the next President/CEO of GLCU by the dedicated Board of Directors and to uphold the tradition that William E. Elliott, President of Local 167, started 80 years ago. Mr. Elliott made the promise to serve in the member’s best interest by putting them first, allowing them to borrow money at a reasonable rate and to have a safe and sound place to save. Those same values hold true even today. The visionary Board and dedicated forward-thinking employees of GLCU have guided the credit union to success for the last eight decades. I look forward to leading the team that plots the strategy that ensures Great Lakes Credit Union is successful for many future generations”.
