Annual scholarship program celebrates 31 students, a new record

CARSON CITY, NV (June 18, 2020) — Greater Nevada Credit Union (GNCU) has awarded 31 Nevada students with scholarships to continue their academic pursuits through the GNCU Scholarship Program.

Scholarship recipients were selected from a competitive pool of 139 applicants. Twenty-nine winners will receive a $2,000 scholarship each, and two winners will receive a $1,000 scholarship each based on the timing of their graduation and enrollment.

The winners were selected from communities throughout Nevada and will attend institutions throughout the country including the University of Nevada, Reno; Washington State University; Boise State University; New York University; Western Governors University; and more.

“We’re thrilled to celebrate these students, who have all maintained a commitment to the community and their studies in incredibly challenging times”, said GNCU Chief Credit and Retail Officer Dean Altus. “These graduating seniors show us what it means to be resilient. I speak for all of our members when I say we are thrilled to help them continue their aspirations of earning a college degree.”

This is the 20th year of the annual scholarship program. GNCU has helped 350 students pursue their educational goals after high school, awarding more than $490,000 in total scholarships over the years.

The scholarship program is part of the GNCU commitment to allow our members to ‘Live Greater’. All GNCU members and their families are eligible to apply. Scholarship winners are selected based on financial need, academic performance, community involvement, and educational/professional goals.
