Guardians Credit Union announces new President/Chief Executive Officer

WEST PALM BEACH, FL (March 10, 2023) — Guardians Credit Union, a full-service financial institution, is proud to announce Steve Bosack as its new President and Chief Executive Officer, effective April 3, 2023. Bosack succeeds John Deese, who retired on December 31, 2022, after 44 years with the credit union.

Of Bosack, Deese says, “I am pleased to welcome Steve Bosack to the Guardians Credit Union family. I have watched his career blossom over the years. He is a perfect leader to carry on the Guardians tradition of ‘people helping people’ mantra.”

Bosack’s long-standing history with the credit union industry dates back 33 years. He began his career as an Associate Editor for Credit Union Times, a then-startup publication, interviewing credit union leaders on operations, growth strategies, and risks. Bosack later served as Vice President of Public Relations & Information Services for the Credit Union National Association (CUNA) for a decade, working with state credit union leagues to support the Credit Union Membership Access Act of 1998, legislation that overturned a U.S. Supreme Court decision and restored credit unions’ legal authority to add members through select employee groups.

Bosack also served as Deputy Director for the National Credit Union Foundation, where he helped establish the first national online disaster relief fundraising center for credit unions and helped secure funding for BizKid$, the first nationally syndicated financial education TV series underwritten by credit unions. He continued his career at the National Credit Union Administration (NCUA), first serving as Senior Policy Advisor to Board Member Debbie Matz and later as Chief of Staff for Chairman Matz. In the decade Bosack devoted to NCUA, he was instrumental in inspiring credit union leaders to connect with diverse members in new markets, managed external and internal relations for the agency chairman, worked with the SBA to promote government-guaranteed business loans to credit unions, and oversaw the leadership of a staff of 1,200.

Most recently, Bosack spent seven years as Chief of Staff of Pentagon Federal (PenFed) Credit Union, working with the executive team of America’s third-largest credit union, serving 2.9 million members with 47 branches and $36 billion in assets. He was actively involved in communications for 3,600 employees, advocating for credit unions with regulators and lawmakers, and building partnerships with local communities.

Bosack called his new role “an honor.” “John Deese has been a good friend and a great mentor ever since he helped introduce me to credit unions 33 years ago. It is my privilege to help carry on the legacy John built with the dedicated Board of Directors and employees at Guardians Credit Union.”

Bosack earned his BA in Economics & Communications from Boston College, graduating cum laude. He also holds certifications as a Credit Union Development Educator and Regulatory Compliance Manager.

Through his knowledge and experience, Bosack brings attention and distinction to Guardians Credit Union, and we are beyond excited to see the future of our family of credit unions under his direction.
