Hanscom FCU’s Lenai Camacho named CCUA’s “Rising Star”
HANSCOM AFB, MA (May 9, 2018) — Hanscom Federal Credit Union is proud to announce that Lenai Camacho, Vice President of Compliance, was one of 14 up-and-coming young executives named as a Credit Union Rising Star by the Cooperative Credit Union Association. The award recognizes the brightest and most vibrant young credit union employees in the region, based on a written nomination highlighting leadership, creativity, and service to the community.
Lenai personifies what the credit union movement is about: people helping people. Lenai started her career at Hanscom FCU as a Compliance Manager in 2012. In 2016 she was promoted to Assistant Vice President of Compliance, then promoted to Vice President in April 2018, a role that has allowed her to protect members from fraud through sound strategies, saving money for the credit union community. Lenai was instrumental in expanding Bank Secrecy Act (BSA) oversight within Hanscom FCU as one of a team of three, helping to reduce loan fraud and identity theft. Her dedication has resulted in good results with internal and external audits.
Lenai consistently sets high goals for herself and her team, and is a resource for her coworkers on compliance issues. She knows industry regulations inside-and-out and is an expert in her field.
Her positive attitude at work is an inspiration to her coworkers, especially since early 2017, when she was diagnosed with breast cancer. Lenai, a wife and mother of a toddler, has undergone treatment while keeping a balance between family and work. Lenai voluntarily and privately shares information about her cancer journey with coworkers who are also confronting health challenges, and serves as a patient resource at Hanscom FCU, an outreach that has developed from genuine kindness and Lenai’s desire to improve her community.
“I am so appreciative of Lenai’s achievements here at the credit union, and I can’t think of anyone more deserving of this award this year,” said Hanscom FCU’s Chairman of the Board, Paul Marotta. “Despite her personal health challenges, Lenai has soldiered on where many others would stumble. She truly is a Rising Star, in every sense of that label.”
Lenai accepted her Credit Union Rising Star Award on May 8 during a breakfast reception kicking off the 2018 Great New England Credit Union Show at the DCU Center in Worcester, MA.
