Honor Credit Union announces Brown Bear Student Credit Union

ST. JOSEPH, MI (October 21, 2013) — Opening this fall will be Honor Credit Union’s latest student credit union, Brown Bear SCU.  Brown Bear SCU will be the student credit union for Brown Elementary, and will be ran by the fourth and fifth grade students with the supervision and guidance of Honor Credit Union’s St. Joseph branch staff.  The student credit union will celebrate its grand opening on Friday October 25th, and will be open for student deposits every Friday morning at 8am after that.

Honor Credit Union’s student credit union program allows students to begin building an understanding of saving money.  Brown Bear SCU will employ fourth and fifth graders to run the student credit union, enabling them to gain valuable life skills, such as responsibility, math skills, marketing, and management.  Students at Brown Bear Elementary will have the opportunity to deposit money into their account every other Friday, and will be able to see how easy saving can be.  Honor Credit Union has a rewards program for students as they make deposits, showing students how fun saving can be, as well.

“Working with the students to get Brown Bear SCU this school year has been extremely rewarding,” comments St. Joseph branch manager Charley Shaskey, “Seeing them begin to understand how easy and fun saving can be has been a great experience, and we can’t wait to share the experience with the entire school at the grand opening!”
