International Credit Union Day celebrated at Heritage Federal Credit Union branches on Friday, October 18, 2013
NEWBURGH, IN (October 18, 2013) — On Friday, October 18, Heritage Federal Credit Union celebrated International Credit Union Day by serving their members granola bars, cookies, hot dogs, chips, water, free gifts, and free paper shredding at all of its seven branches.
Since 1948, International Credit Union Day has been celebrated annually in October. Each year, the international event affords the opportunity to remember credit unions’ proud history and promote awareness of and support for the credit union difference. This year’s theme is Credit Unions Unite for Good: A Better WayTM. Heritage Federal Credit Union celebrated this event in order to thank the members of Heritage Federal Credit Union for their trust and loyalty.
Credit unions are not-for-profit financial cooperatives that provide an effective and viable alternative to for-profit financial institutions for more than 200 million members at more than 55,0 00 credit unions in 101 countries worldwide. They exist to serve their members, providing a safe place to save money and access affordable loans. International Credit Union Day is sponsored by the World Council of Credit Unions (WOCCU), the international trade association and development agency for credit unions worldwide, and Credit Union National Association (CUNA), the premier trade association for credit unions in the United States.
Credit unions from around the world celebrated the day with parades, festivals, contests, and open houses.
