Jared Ihrig named Chief Compliance Officer for Credit Union National Association

WASHINGTON, DC (March 2, 2015) — Jonathan (Jared) Ihrig has been promoted to Chief Compliance Officer for the Credit Union National Association (CUNA). Effective immediately, Ihrig will manage staff to provide compliance information to leagues and credit unions, as well as provide assistance to CUNA’s advocacy department in assessing the impact of federal legislation on credit union operations.

“Jared will bring a wealth of legal knowledge and knowhow to his new role which will contribute greatly to the success of credit unions and CUNA,” said Jim Nussle, CUNA President and CEO. “Jared will make a great addition to CUNA’s Leadership Team, and I looking forward to continuing to work with him.”

Ihrig will replace Kathleen (Kathy) Thompson as Chief Compliance Officer. Thompson is retiring this summer after serving CUNA for over 35 years.

“Kathy has been a leader in the financial industry for decades,” said Nussle. “Her work has raised the bar for the credit union system and she will be missed. Kathy will always be a friend to CUNA, and I wish her well in retirement.”

Ihrig has worked within the credit union compliance, advocacy and legal system for nearly 20 years. He currently serves as senior director of advocacy and counsel and has been with CUNA since 2011. Prior to joining CUNA, he served as regulatory counsel for Blalack & Williams, P.C., a law firm representing credit unions across the state of Texas, as Senior Compliance Officer for Security Service Federal Credit Union in Texas and as partner at a regional law firm in Dallas, focused on the mortgage banking industry. Ihrig, also a Certified Public Accountant, began his career with Ernst & Young, LLP, and subsequently served as Director of Compliance and Assistant General Counsel for American Airlines Federal Credit Union in Texas.

Ihrig earned his law degree from Oklahoma City University and his bachelor’s degree from Oklahoma State University.
