Jeanne D’Arc Credit Union awards $1,000 to local Hometown Heroes
LOWELL, MA (June 11, 2018) — Jeanne D’Arc Credit Union recently awarded a total of $1,000 to four local “Hometown Heroes” through their Small Acts That Give Back initiative.
Throughout the month of May, the Credit Union gave community members the chance to nominate someone they know who goes above and beyond in their community. Between April 25th and May 25th, Jeanne D’Arc received a total of 51 submissions, all of which described someone who has made a positive impact on the lives of others.
“We were truly amazed and inspired by the selfless actions our neighbors take to pay it forward each day,” said Mark S. Cochran, President and Chief Executive Officer of Jeanne D’Arc Credit Union.
The Credit Union chose a Hometown Hero every Friday during the month of May. Andrea Connelly of Dracut, Phil Lemire, also of Dracut, Peter Moore of Tyngsboro and Midge Landry of Lowell were all announced as Hometown Heroes.
Connelly was nominated by two different people for the work she does with End 68 Hours of Hunger in Dracut schools. Lemire was nominated by his son, Craig, for his volunteer efforts with D’Youville Life & Wellness Community. Moore was nominated by his wife, Jessica, for his work with Paralyzed Veterans of America, New England Chapter. Landry was nominated by her husband of 49 years, Roger, for the volunteer work she has done over the past 40 years. Each Hometown Hero received a personalized plaque and a $250 prize.
“It’s a wonderful feeling to know that what we are doing matters and makes a difference,” said Andrea Connelly, week one winner. “I am honored that people in Dracut think I am a hero because I don’t think that I am. My parents taught me that I should treat people the way I want to be treated, and I would hope that if I was ever in need there would be someone ready to help me.”
