Lake Trust Credit Union’s Giving Tuesday success supports healing center for grieving children and teens, Ele’s Place

Organization with four Michigan locations in Flint, Lansing, Ann Arbor, and Grand Rapids selected in online forum receives $8,929 donation to aid children coping with death of loved one.

BRIGHTON, MI (December 4, 2018) — As this year’s contribution for its annual Giving Tuesday tradition, Lake Trust Credit Union through its Moved by Good initiative announced an $8,929 donation to Ele’s Place, a non-profit community-based organization dedicated to creating awareness of and support for grieving children and their families, with locations in Flint, Lansing, Ann Arbor and Grand Rapids.

Ele’s Place received the most online votes from Lake Trust Credit Union members, social media followers and the community at large. The Lake Trust Foundation will also donate $1,500 to the other organizations that were eligible.
Lake Trust earmarked one penny from every debit and credit card transaction including online and in-store purchases occurring between Black Friday (November 23) and Cyber Monday (November 26) to award to a charitable organization nominated by Lake Trust team members.

Lake Trust Credit Union team members also nominated City Rescue Mission of Lansing; Isabella County Restoration House in Mt. Pleasant; Love in Action in Grand Haven; and LACASA Center in Howell.

“Our vision is that no child should grieve alone, and the holiday season is particularly challenging for families who have experienced the death of someone close to them. With an increase in death by suicide and overdose, this time of year can be especially difficult. We provide services at no cost since these families also undergo tremendous financial pressure,” said Kristine Kuhnert, Ele’s Place Lansing Director. “In our four locations, we’ve established programs for children and teens to help each other. This year we are also providing eight-week sessions in up to 40 schools in the Lansing area for 2018-2019. It is the generosity of Lake Trust and its members that help ease the most difficult time in a child’s life, and we’re so thankful.”

“Throughout the years, Lake Trust has participated in and contributed to many events and causes for those in need across Michigan. Giving Tuesday is special since we can help elevate the profiles of wonderful local organizations,” said Brandalynn Winchester-Middlebrook, Lake Trust Credit Union Senior Vice President of Culture and Community Engagement. “Ele’s Place and all our nominees make a difference, and we share the passion to be Moved By Good for the communities we serve.”
