Local cheer team wins $1,000 for best Pelican State Credit Union cheer

BATON ROUGE, LA (October 15, 2013) — The entire school screamed with excitement as Pelican State Credit Union surprised the Most Blessed Sacrament cheerleaders with a check for $1,000 at their school’s pep rally on Friday. The credit union challenged cheer squads across Louisiana to create the best Pelican cheer and they did just that!

The girls chanted “Louisiana, let’s hear it. Show your Pelican spirit!” in their winning cheer video. “Checking, banking, savings accounts, we’ve got it all figured out,” continued the girls as they back flipped in unison across the field.

Most Blessed Sacrament was one of six cheer teams to enter the contest. Points were awarded for originality, use of the credit union’s name, technique, video quality and several other factors.

“The cheer contest was a fun and unique way for us to support the schools’ cheer teams while raising awareness of credit unions among the younger generation,” said Pelican CEO Jeffrey K. Conrad.

Pelican also awarded $250 to second place winner Live Oak Middle School, $150 to third place winner Carencro Catholic Middle School and hair bows to honorable mention winner Quitman Jr. High School.

“We are proud to support schools in our branch communities across the state and look forward to continuing to do so for many years to come,” Conrad added.
