Local credit union strengthens focus on community outreach

Scott Blalock announced as community relations coordinator

Tennessee Members 1st Federal Credit Union (TN Members 1st) is pleased to welcome Scott Blalock as Community Relations Coordinator. Most recently an independent communication consultant, Blalock has deep professional roots in the Oak Ridge and greater Knoxville area as he was one of the original weather forecasters for WOKI-FM, a meteorologist for WATE TV6 and WVLT-TV Channel 8, as well as a contractor for SAIC Inc.

“We’re excited to have Scott join the credit union team,” said Rick Mikels, TN Members 1st President & CEO. “With our recent designation as a Community Development Financial Institution, we knew having someone dedicated to community outreach was important and Scott’s experience and familiarity with the communities we serve make him a great fit for this position.”

TN Members 1st was designated as a Community Development Financial Institution (CDFI) in December 2020, making them eligible to participate in specialized programs and grant-funded initiatives. CDFIs invest in local communities and the residents who live there by providing critically needed financing often unavailable from mainstream financial institutions. Through different strategies, each CDFI contributes to the cultivation of a healthy, stable local economy.

“I’m looking forward to helping our community explore all TN Members 1st has to offer while also strengthening the connection the credit union has with the areas we serve,” said Blalock. “When you see me out and about, let’s talk about the weather and maybe learn a little about how the credit union can help you.”
