Glendale, CA (July 1, 2026) |
Ten winners of the LAFCU 2026 Jack C. Mathews College Scholarship competition were honored in June with a special presentation at the LAFCU corporate office. The winners were each awarded $9,000 (for a total of $90,000 in scholarships), and each will be attending college in the fall of 2026.
A record 232 entries was received. Applicants were evaluated on their academic transcripts, letters of recommendation, extracurricular activities, community service, and a 60-second video creatively addressing the following topic: “Artificial intelligence is being used more regularly in school, work and in our daily lives. What is your overall opinion of AI? List some pros and/or cons.”
The scholarship was established in 2006 in honor of the late Jack C. Mathews, who worked for the City of Los Angeles for 40y years and served 34 years as a volunteer on its Board. Since 2006, we have awarded $230,000 in scholarships to 116 deserving students or teachers.
