Consumers Credit Union partners with Cornerstone University to expand education access for employees and members

Kalamazoo, MI (July 1, 2026) |

Consumers Credit Union has formed a new partnership with Cornerstone University, giving Consumers employees and members access to exclusive education benefits across Cornerstone's online, on-campus and smartphone-based degree programs.

Through the partnership, employees and members qualify for a 10% tuition discount on Cornerstone's online and on-campus degree programs. Those interested in Cornerstone's SOAR™ program, a smartphone-based degree platform designed for working adults, are eligible for a scholarship of up to $1,950.

“We're always looking for ways to invest in the people who make this organization go,” said Shawn Premer, chief human resources officer at Consumers. “Education changes trajectories. Partnering with Cornerstone gives our employees a real, accessible path to grow, and that benefits everyone they serve.”

For members, the partnership extends that same opportunity beyond the walls of the credit union. Whether someone is pursuing a degree for the first time or returning to finish what they started, the benefits are designed to lower the financial barrier to getting there.

Lisa Piatek, AVP of partner development for SOAR, said the program was built with busy people in mind. “SOAR was designed for people who can't put their lives on hold to earn a degree,” Piatek said. “Partnering with Consumers means we can reach more working adults who are ready to take that step and give them a scholarship to help make it possible.”

Cornerstone University, based in Grand Rapids, Michigan, offers a range of accredited undergraduate and graduate programs both on campus and online. The SOAR™ program delivers full degree coursework through a smartphone app, allowing students to learn on their own schedule.

Details on how to access these benefits are available at ConsumersCU.org/about/benefits.
