United Federal Credit Union (United) has been recognized by the U.S. Small Business Administration (SBA) Michigan District Office as the Credit Union Lender of the Year for 2025 and earned a place among the Top 10 SBA Lenders in Michigan.
United increased its SBA lending from $304,000 in 2024 to $69 million in 2025, positioning it among the fastest-growing SBA 7(a) lenders in the country. Their SBA lending supported a range of industries, with notable activity in the accommodations sector, including hotel financing, while also expanding into a more diversified mix of business types.
Awards were presented at the SBA Michigan District Office’s annual Michigan Lender Awards Ceremony on June 9, 2026, recognizing the state’s most active and impactful small business lending partners for their contributions to supporting entrepreneurs and strengthening local economies. In 2025, SBA lending partners across Michigan delivered more than $1.3 billion in financing through nearly 2,900 loans, reflecting continued strong demand for capital and resources to support business growth.
United’s recognition is backed by significant lending activity and rapid growth. In 2025, United originated 53 SBA 7(a) loans totaling $69 million nationwide, with Michigan leading the way at 22 loans totaling $17 million. Additional lending highlights included loans totaling $12.5 million in North Carolina, three loans totaling $1.3 million in Nevada, and one loan in Ohio totaling $774,000.
Across all SBA lending, the credit union achieved an average loan size of approximately $1.3 million, demonstrating its ability to support both emerging and established businesses with meaningful capital.
