Securityplus Federal Credit Union strengthened its commitment to youth financial education by partnering with Junior Achievement of Central Maryland at JA Finance Park, where team members volunteered throughout June to help local middle school students build real-world money management skills.
During sessions held on June 1, June 3, and June 11, Securityplus volunteers guided students through interactive budgeting and life-simulation activities that mirrored the financial responsibilities adults face every day. Students were assigned unique life scenarios including income, career, and household expenses, and worked through decisions involving budgeting, saving, and balancing financial priorities. Junior Achievement research shows that 1 in 5 JA students ultimately pursue a career path aligned with the volunteer who mentored them, highlighting the long-term impact of these experiences.
“Financial education is one of the most meaningful ways we can invest in the future of our communities,” said Mike Barr, Chief Executive Officer of Securityplus Federal Credit Union. “Our partnership with Junior Achievement allows our team members to share their knowledge, experiences, and passion for helping others while empowering students with skills they can carry throughout their lives.”
“Our team walked away just as inspired as the students,” added Obinna Ndukwe, Chief People & Impact Officer at Securityplus Federal Credit Union. “Seeing our employees connect with students and help them understand real-world financial choices reflects the heart of who we are as an organization.”
Securityplus volunteers included: Obinna Ndukwe, Danielle Warren, Tymeshia L. Alleyne, Erin Thompson, Rhonda White-Johnson, Charlita Stevenson, Chakeesha Simmons-El, Shelton Hunter, Nathaniel Moseley, Atia Ross, Patrice Smith, Latoya Saunders, Yeshimebet Gutema, and Taylor Tripp.
Securityplus Federal Credit Union is dedicated to preparing the next generation for financial success by investing in programs that build confidence, capability, and real-world readiness. Through hands-on partnerships like Junior Achievement, Securityplus continues to support educational experiences that help students make informed decisions and build strong financial foundations for the future.
