LPL Financial promotes chief compliance officer Sharyn Handelsman to managing director
CHARLOTTE, N.C. (March 19, 2015) — LPL Financial LLC, the nation’s largest independent broker-dealer*, a custodian for registered investment advisors (RIAs), and a wholly owned subsidiary of LPL Financial Holdings Inc. (NASDAQ: LPLA), today announced that Sharyn Handelsman, director of compliance and brokerage chief compliance officer, has been named as a new managing director of the firm.

Under Handelsman’s leadership, the compliance function at LPL has gained better alignment and become more efficient. The business unit is comprised of more than 300 employees, or approximately 10 percent of the LPL employee workforce, and more positions will be added throughout 2015, demonstrating LPL’s commitment to protecting its advisors and institutions as well as their clients.
Handelsman joined LPL in 2010 and assumed the role of director of compliance and brokerage chief compliance officer in January 2014, at which time she assumed responsibility for the combined brokerage and advisory compliance functions within LPL’s Governance, Risk and Compliance (GRC) business. Prior to that, she was executive vice president of business risk management for GRC with responsibility for external-facing risk and supervisory functions supporting advisors, sponsors, product developers and program managers. In that role she successfully built out the Home Office Supervision team, built a solid senior leadership team and established a centralized supervisory function.
Handelsman has more than 25 years of financial services and risk management experience. She earned a Bachelor of Science in accounting from the University of Virginia, qualified as a CERTIFIED PUBLIC ACCOUNTANT®, and is FINRA Series 7 and 24 registered through LPL Financial.
