MCUL Podcast welcomes CUNA CEO Jim Nussle

LANSING, MI (October 26, 2023)This week, Michigan Credit Union League (MCUL) President/CEO Patty Corkery interviewed Jim Nussle, President & CEO of CUNA, on the MCUL podcast, Credit Unions, Coffee and Conversation.

Nussle, who has spent nearly a decade leading CUNA, talked with Corkery about the ongoing vote for a joint national credit union association. If passed, CUNA and fellow association, NAFCU, would form America’s Credit Unions.

On the podcast episode, Nussle discusses the origins of this potential merger. He mentions a discussion between leaders of both organizations who came together to address what he calls “the elephant in the room:” why are there two trade associations? Nussle also gets into many of the motivations behind moving to this vote.

“Our boards are saying, ‘Let’s not just do a CUNA 2.0 or NAFCU 2.0 but let’s actually build something new’ … new in theory, new in principle, new in attitude,” stressed Nussle.

The two also talk about advocacy, more generally, including the difference between politics and advocacy, as well as some in-depth ins and outs on current critical points for credit unions.
