Members First Credit Union makes community impact

The employees of Members First Credit Union (MFCU) gathered for their annual Make A Difference Day on Monday, Feb. 19, 2018. Make A Difference Day (MADD) is a day full of a staff education of the strategic plan, celebrating successes, looking forward to the future, personal development and community impact.

MFCU impacts the community through their Community Different Project. The project was created to impact peoples' lives in positive ways. Whether it's to volunteer, perform a good deed or provide support for people in need, we're here to create better lives for people in our communities.  MFCU will donate $5,000 to be split among the following organizations: Make-A-Wish of Michigan, American Cancer Society, Big Brothers Big Sisters of the Great Lakes Bay Region, Humane Society of West Michigan and Special Olympics of Michigan. During the day, employees were able to earn “MADD Bucks” and decide how much MFCU should donate to each organization.

Members First employees committed to over $8,000 in donations for MCULAF (Michigan Credit Union League Action Fund). Various fundraisers will continue to grow their total donation throughout the year.

“We were very excited to have support from our Executive Vice Presidents Carrie Iafrate and Anna Marie Zielinski! They even offered to receive a pie in the face once our goal had been reached.” – Joe McLosky, MFCU employee

Last year, employees recorded a total of 1,129 volunteer hours with 84 different organizations, impacting 12 counties in Michigan. MFCU donated to 159 different organizations, totaling over $85,000. The donations focused on, but were not limited to, Education, Economic Development and Community Involvement.

Anna Marie Zielinski, Executive Vice President, stated “Collectively as employees we are reminded of the strength in our MFCU core values. As individuals we take the time to celebrate who we are. Together we embrace the pride we feel while continuing to serve our communities.”

Carrie Iafrate, Executive Vice President, was very proud of the staff. “Our team members work with care and enthusiasm through every single member interaction day in and day out.  Make A Difference Day allows us to all come together to focus on that amazing service, reward them for their accomplishments, educate and inspire them to continually improve, and make a large community impact as a team.  The day reminds us that though we may work with the same people on a daily basis, we are 210 strong across the state of Michigan with a genuine desire to help others find their happy.”
