MSGCU and Vision Hope: Changing children’s lives

CLINTON TOWNSHIP, MI (March 18, 2015) — Michigan Schools and Government Credit Union (MSGCU) and Vision Hope are making a difference this summer by supporting a unique camp experience for a special group of children. Champion for Life Kids’ Camp provides hundreds of abused, neglected and abandoned foster children with a week of camp in a safe, positive, and nurturing environment. Camp includes traditional activities like kayaking, archery, swimming, and horseback riding along with the benefits of individualized attention, unconditional love, and encouragement.

MSGCU’s St. Clair Shores branch reached out to Vision Hope as part of MSGCU’s “Year of Giving Back” program.  Each month in 2015, an MSGCU branch is selecting a non-profit organization in the Southeast Michigan community to support.  “We looked at a number of charities, seeking one where our contribution might make a difference,” said Miroslav Crnojevic, St. Clair Shores Branch Manager. “We were amazed to see what impact Vision Hope makes with such limited resources in the lives of the 7-11 year old children they serve.”

In addition to making a monetary contribution to the summer camp, MSGCU is getting involved in other ways. Branch staff is volunteering at the camp and creating special gifts for the “Everybody’s Birthday Party” event that is part of the camp experience. Every child attends the big birthday party and receives his or her own cake. Toy-filled backpacks, this year donated by MSGCU, are also part of the festivities.

“The birthday party is so special to these kids, as many of them have never had a birthday cake or a birthday party,“ said Sue Pace, Director of Community Relations at Vision Hope. “This is the day they were created and we show them they were created for a purpose.”

Vision Hope’s Champions for Life Kids’ Camp has served foster children from Macomb and St. Clair counties for the past 12 years. This year, up to 130 children will make positive and lasting memories at camp and be encouraged to hope for a better future.
