While there’s nothing like an apple to show a teacher appreciation, Michigan Schools and Government Credit Union (MSGCU) is pleased to express its support for educators through its 2018 MSGCU Classroom Cash Grant program.
MSGCU invites teachers to submit grant proposals for up to $750 through October 7. In total, the 2018 Classroom Cash Grant program will award $45,000 in grants to teachers throughout Southeastern Michigan. Teachers can use the grants to make their innovative and essential classroom project ideas a reality.
During the voting period from October 15-26, students, parents, colleagues, and members of the school and local community can show their support by voting for their favorite projects through the online voting process on www.classroomcash.org. The projects receiving the most votes receive the grants.
The MSGCU Classroom Cash Grant program is open to all teachers that reside or work in any county in Michigan’s Lower Peninsula. Teachers can be educators serving in public, private, parochial or charter schools. Previous Classroom Cash winners and entrants may also reapply.
“Teachers have a profound impact on the lives of students and the community in which we live,” Peter Gates, MSGCU President/CEO, said. “As a Credit Union founded by teachers, we are excited to be able to provide funding for materials, equipment and other resources necessary to carry out educational projects that would otherwise not be covered by a school’s budget. With Classroom Cash Grants, we can help make these essential projects a reality for teachers and their students.”
MSGCU Classroom Cash was launched in 2005. To date, more than 800 teachers have been awarded nearly $400,000 through the program.
Recipients must either be a member of MSGCU or become a member of MSGCU before receipt of the award. Member teachers can also take advantage of other MSGCU programs that include loans designed for classroom purchases, a variety of scholarships, and in-classroom financial literacy programs designed to meet curriculum needs.
