NAFCU President & CEO Dan Berger to attend White House Summit on Cybersecurity & Consumer Protection
WASHINGTON, DC (February 12, 2015) — National Association of Federal Credit Unions (NAFCU) President and CEO Dan Berger will attend President Barack Obama’s White House Summit on Cybersecurity and Consumer Protection at Stanford University on Friday, Feb. 13.
“NAFCU applauds the president for his commitment to address the growing cybersecurity threats to our economy and consumers. We welcome the opportunity to be part of this vital discussion and to help advance solutions to prevent future cyberattacks and protect American consumers,” Berger said. “We will also continue our efforts to win passage of legislation to hold retailers and merchants to national data security standards such as those required now of credit unions and other financial institutions.”
The White House Wednesday released the agenda for the summit, which will feature remarks from the president as well as from Apple CEO Tim Cook and Small Business Administration Administrator Maria Contreras-Sweet. In addition, the heads of many well-known companies will attend, including the CEOs of MasterCard, American Express, PayPal, Bank of America, Visa and Intel.
The Summit will bring together leaders from across the country who have a stake in this issue — industry, tech companies, law enforcement, consumer and privacy advocates, law professors who specialize in this field, and students — to collaborate and explore partnerships that will help develop the best ways to bolster cybersecurity.
NAFCU was the first financial trade association in the wake of the massive Target breach to call for a national data security standard that would hold retailers accountable for data breaches that occur on their end and which hurt consumers and their financial institutions.
NAFCU is a member of the Payments Security Task Force, a diverse group of participants in the payments industry that is driving a discussion on payments system security. NAFCU is also a member of the Financial Services Sector Coordinating Council and the Financial Services Information Sharing and Analysis Center, which work on infrastructure cybersecurity.
The National Association of Federal Credit Unions is the only national trade association that exclusively represents the interests of federally chartered credit unions before the federal government and the public.
