NAFCU’s Bahhur, Coleman promoted to lead regulatory teams

WASHINGTON, DC (Oct. 8, 2013) — The National Association of Federal Credit Unions (NAFCU) announced Monday that Jiji Bahhur and Michael Coleman were promoted to director of compliance and director of regulatory affairs, respectively. They previously held the positions of regulatory compliance counsel.

“Jiji and Michael have been instrumental during an extremely challenging time in providing our members with outstanding regulatory compliance assistance,” said Carrie Hunt, NAFCU’s senior vice president of government affairs and general counsel. “I am confident that, under their direction, NAFCU’s regulatory affairs and regulatory compliance operations will keep members up to date on critical regulatory compliance issues and ensure their interests are well represented before NCUA, CFPB and other federal agencies having an impact on credit unions.”

In her new role, Bahhur is responsible for all aspects of NAFCU’s regulatory compliance assistance program. The regulatory compliance staff answer members’ compliance questions, author compliance blog posts and articles and speak at credit union events and NAFCU conferences. Bahhur will also oversee the association’s compliance-related products and services, including the Credit Union Compliance GPS and online training for board and new staff members.

Bahhur is a graduate of Thomas M. Cooley Law School and holds a bachelor’s degree and master’s from the University of Detroit Mercy. She is a member of the Virginia State Bar and Michigan State Bar.

As head of NAFCU’s regulatory affairs division, Coleman will serve as staff liaison to federal regulatory agencies, assist in handling the development and implementation of the association’s regulatory policies, and conduct analysis, interpretation and explanation of policy issues impacting NAFCU’s members. The regulatory affairs staff issue regulatory alerts to NAFCU members, speak at credit union events and the association’s conferences, participate in webcasts and write regulatory articles for certain NAFCU publications.

Coleman is a graduate of George Mason University School of Law and earned his bachelor’s from the University of Virginia. He is a member of the Virginia State Bar and the Federated States of Micronesia Bar.
