Northwest Federal CU’s volunteers and team give their best at Annual Cherry Blossom 10-Mile Run, support Children’s Miracle Network hospitals

HERNDON, VA (April 20, 2015) — The Credit Union Cherry Blossom Ten Mile Run is a special annual event for Northwest Federal Credit Union and the NWFCU Foundation. This year the Northwest team of 94 employees, friends and family members ran alongside international contenders, Members of Congress and thousands of other participants on Sunday, April 12. Beyond making it to the finish line was the larger goal of all the credit unions involved–helping sick and injured children served by the Children’s Miracle Network (CMN) hospitals.

President/CEO of Northwest Federal Chris McDonald says the event is so much more than just a race. “Supporting the Cherry Blossom Ten Mile Run and Children’s Miracle Network hospitals allows us to give hope to young people affected by serious illness. Northwest Federal’s involvement demonstrates our commitment to supporting causes that share our mission to advocate for the common good of our communities,” he said.

The race, held on the grounds of the Washington Monument, is a premier annual event that raises money to support the Credit Union Miracle Day charity (which brings together credit union organizations throughout the United States to support the 170 CMN hospitals). This year’s event demonstrated Northwest Federal’s high level of commitment.

Through CMN, the NWFCU Foundation presented a $6,385 check to Children’s National Medical Center in Washington, D.C. The Foundation raised the money through fundraisers during the past year, with many donations coming from Northwest Federal members.

120 Northwest Federal volunteers worked the race as mile marshals – the Credit Union’s largest group ever.

Northwest Federal fielded 94 employees, family, and friends as runners – one of the largest credit union teams.

Linda Rogus, Executive Director of the NWFCU Foundation, says you cannot overstate the positive effect fundraising related to the race has on children receiving treatment at Children’s National Medical Center. “This effort makes a substantial and meaningful difference in the lives of kids in our broader community,” said Rogus.
