Nutmeg State Financial Credit Union was presented the Dora Maxwell Social Responsibility Community Service Award following its extensive participation in the March for Babies, a fundraising event held by the March of Dimes dedicated to helping families impacted by premature birth. Each year the Dora Maxwell award recognizes Connecticut credit unions who demonstrate a high commitment to community and social organizations. Nutmeg also garnered this prestigious distinction in 2017.
Over the course of the fundraiser week, Nutmeg employees donated to “dress down” in jeans and casual clothing and placed donation boxes at branches for incoming members. The week culminated in a “Purple Spirit Day,” when frontline staff wore purple clothing and stickers promoting March of Dimes for members to ask about the fundraiser. Nutmeg matched all employee and branch donations, doubling the total presented to the charity, and rewarded the branch that received the most donations during the week.
This cause is near and dear to an employee of the credit union who had premature twins in 2009. Nutmeg’s staff came together to support this fellow co-worker and the cause that means so much to her family and other families, not only within the Greater Hartford Connecticut area, but also nationwide.
“Giving back to families and communities we serve is what we do,” said Nutmeg President & CEO John Holt, who also served as the event chairperson. “Supporting those in need is tremendously important to us. We are honored that our charity work has been acknowledged for a second year and look forward to showing our support again in the future.”
In total, Nutmeg raised $43,000 for March of Dimes with a record full employee participation rate. The credit union will now move on as a finalist in the running for a national-level award, which will be presented next month to the winner.
