RALEIGH, NC (October 15, 2013) — Over 1,100 State Employees’ Credit Union (SECU) member-owners attended their cooperative’s Annual Membership Meeting held October 9th at the Koury Convention Center in Greensboro, N.C. The day began with a volunteer luncheon and guest speaker, followed by a series of educational sessions highlighting member suggested topics including technology and financial advisory services. An afternoon General Meeting and Board of Directors election rounded out the day’s events, which focused on the theme of SECU—Designed for YOU!
Luncheon guest speaker Mark Meyer, CEO of Filene Research Institute, spoke to attendees about the importance of their volunteer role and the positive impact they have in the success of their Credit Union. SECU Board Chair McKinley Wooten and SECU President Jim Blaine spoke with members during the General Meeting about the continued safety and soundness of their cooperative and the commitment SECU has for designing products and services to meet the financial needs of its members.
Mr. Wooten noted, “Each of us has a different life plan and different path we choose, but regardless of our individual ‘blueprint,’ SECU is designed for all of us! Member testimonials shared in SECU’s 2013 Report to the Membership give affirmation that the Credit Union is meeting the needs of those it serves.”
Additional highlights of the day included a guest appearance by recently retired SECU Senior Executive Vice President Bobby Hall, as well as an SECU Foundation project summary and video montage presented by SECU Foundation Board Chair Jim Barber. In his acknowledgement of the one million member-owners who contribute to the SECU Foundation Mr. Barber stated, “Each Foundation initiative demonstrates your belief in the cooperative spirit of helping others. Your contributions are touching the lives of fellow members, neighbors and communities in ways beyond what many thought possible.”
