Pennsylvania Envirothon wins second annual PSECU Gives Back campaign, receives popular vote-based funding

HARRISBURG, PA (July 20, 2018) — Pennsylvania’s largest credit union, PSECU, recently announced the winner of its second annual month-long PSECU Gives Back popular vote-based community donation campaign. Selecting from four potential nonprofit organization beneficiaries, PSECU members and non-members alike took to Facebook to select this year’s winner –Pennsylvania Envirothon.

“When people come together for a unified purpose, great things can happen. In the 1930s, our 22 founders pooled $90 and created PSECU as a credit union that would help people achieve a better life. Now, nearly 85 years later, the PSECU Gives Back campaign offers a similar unifying effort – it’s a modern, social media-enhanced model that encourages the participation of our members and the greater community with a call to action,” explained PSECU President Greg Smith. “We asked them to vote and tell us which community organization they believe should receive PSECU funds. They heard us loud and clear.”

This year, the winning contribution presented by PSECU was increased from $250 in the initial campaign to $2,200, both to provide the recipient organization with additional funds to support its mission and also as a nod to the credit union’s 22 founders who set in place PSECU’s “gives back” legacy.

“Pennsylvania Envirothon educates more than 40,000 high school students in natural resource conservation and environmental sciences each year,” said Lorelle Steach, Executive Director of Pennsylvania Envirothon. “When we toured PSECU’s LEED Gold-certified headquarters, we saw many conservation-focused building components that are exemplary of what Envirothon students learn. We look forward to continuing our youth educational effort thanks to generous supporters like PSECU.”

The remaining three 2018 PSECU Gives Back participating nonprofits – Alzheimer’s AssociationChildren’s Miracle Network, and Feeding Pennsylvania – will also each be awarded $500 to support the outstanding services they provide to communities across the commonwealth.

“PSECU Gives Back is just one aspect of PSECU’s strong, ongoing commitment to community betterment. Our year-round charitable sponsorships and corporate donations, financial education programming and resources, and employee volunteerism supported by the credit union’s more than 900 employees, all play an important role,” said Margaret Delmonico, PSECU Director of Public Relations. “To learn more about PSECU’s community involvement across Pennsylvania, please read our 2017 Community Report Card.”

Throughout the month of May, the second annual PSECU Gives Back campaign reached a total of 141,673 people.
