People’s Credit Union Member Awarded Scholarship
MIDDLETOWN, RI (June 20, 2013) People’s Credit Union recently presented member, Devin Lane, with a $500 college scholarship from the Credit Union Association of Rhode Island. Lane who was sponsored by People’s Credit Union was selected from hundreds of applications submitted to credit unions from throughout Rhode Island.
Applicants were evaluated on a variety of criteria including the students’ academic performance, financial need, extracurricular activities, and the quality of content of an essay that addressed the applicant’s intended major field of study and career goals.
Lane is a recent graduate of North Kingstown High School and he plans to attend Northeastern University in Boston this fall. He will be majoring in engineering and minoring in music. Lane is an avid volunteer with the American Cancer Society and he also trains and has won several tournaments in Brazilian jiu jitsu. In addition he has been a member of People’s Credit Union’s Youth Advisory Board for two terms. Lane resides in North Kingstown.
“We have gotten to know Devin through his two terms on the Youth Advisory Board; he has been an asset to the Board and a great mentor to the other Board members. His high level of academic achievement and commitment to the community make him well deserving of this award,” commented Ellen Ford, People’s President & CEO.
People’s Credit Union serves members through six locations in Bristol, Middletown, Newport, North Kingstown, Portsmouth and Wakefield.
