Premier Federal Credit Union Celebrates 50th Anniversary
GREENSBORO, NC (June 27, 2013) On June 17th, a celebration for Premier Federal Credit Union’s 50th anniversary was held at their corporate head quarters. The event was attended by members, business partners and credit union industry representatives. Festivities included refreshments, prize drawings and various activities for adults and children. John Radebaugh, President of the NC Credit Union League presented a plaque to CEO, Lori Thompson, recognizing the credit union’s 50 years of serving their members.
A ceremony was held to dedicate the credit union’s recently installed historical display to Mr. Robert R. Scruggs. Mr. Scruggs was an original signer of the credit union’s charter in 1963 and have been involved as a committee member or board member for the last 50 years. “Bob have given his time, talent and energy, selflessly over the years. He truly cares about the credit union and the members and staff.” stated Dennie Smith, Chairman of the Board of Directors. “He is most deserving of this dedication as he has played an essential role in the credit union since the beginning.” added Smith. Lori Thompson, President and CEO stated “We can always count on Bob to provide us with guidance and support and to do what is right for our members. He exemplifies the concept of People Helping People”.
In September 1963, Cone Mills Greensboro Federal Credit Union was chartered to provide affordable loans and a safe place to save for local employees of Cone Mills Corporation. In 1981, all Cone Mills credit unions were merged to form one entity – Cone Federal Credit Union. The credit union name was changed to Premier Federal Credit Union in 1989 for the purpose of expanding the field of membership. Today, over 400 companies and more than 23,000 members are served by the employees of Premier. “We are very proud to be celebrating 50 years of serving our members.” stated Thompson. “While our business looks much different than it did 50 years ago, we still operate under the same guiding principles and cooperative spirit. We will always be grateful for the opportunity our members have given us and the trust they have placed in us for the last 50 years and for the next 50 and beyond. Our commitment to them remains as strong today as it was in 1963.” added Thompson.
