PSCU Relationship Team Builds, Donates Bikes for Boys & Girls Club of New Orleans
Team building exercise surprises Crescent City children with 12 new bicycles
ST. PETERSBURG, FL (May 7, 2014) — PSCU’s Relationship Development team learned that some corporate team building activities are more rewarding and impactful than others after presenting 12 children from the Boys & Girls Club of New Orleans with new bikes on April 28. The gleaming two-wheelers were assembled during a competitive exercise at the group’s recent quarterly meeting.
PSCU and the credit unions in the Louisiana area worked with the Boys & Girls Club of New Orleans to select 12 deserving boys and girls ages 8 to 12 to be the proud new owners of the black and pink bikes. PSCU’s builders knew the bikes would be given to the Boys & Girls Club, but had no idea the children would be coming to the meeting to receive them.
“The emotions and gratitude from the children when they saw the bikes was overwhelming,” said Sean Diamond, PSCU EVP of Relationship Development. “The moment made all of us reflect on how fortunate we are and also what a huge difference we can make in people’s lives.”
The bikes were assembled by six teams of eight people who had to work through various business problems and questions to acquire the parts and tools needed to build the bikes. Thinking their work was done with the completion of the last bike, the teams were surprised with what happened when the meeting room doors were opened.
“The look of joy and delight on the faces of the boys and girls when they rushed in was a moving experience for us all,” said Diamond. “But the reactions of our own team were equally memorable. It took our team building exercise to a much more personal level than we expected.” PSCU’s Relationship Development team plans to make activities around giving back to the community a regular part of its quarterly business meetings going forward.
