PSECU celebrates the platinum anniversary of International Credit Union Day

HARRISBURG, PA (October 11, 2018) — On October 18, Pennsylvania’s largest credit union PSECU, along with thousands of other credit unions around the world, will celebrate the 70th anniversary of International Credit Union Day (ICU Day). Held on the third Thursday of October since 1948, the observation recognizes the philosophy and ongoing achievements of the credit union movement.

“Credit unions, like PSECU, are financial cooperatives that are owned by their members. Surplus earnings are returned to those members through benefits like competitive loan rates and low- or no-fee products and services,” explained PSECU President Greg Smith. “We also aim to follow the ‘people helping people’ credit union philosophy in all we do – giving back to the communities we serve through things like charitable donations, financial education programming, and employee volunteerism.”

PSECU embraces ICU Day because it believes the not-for-profit structure and people-first principles of credit unions make them the ideal financial institutions for all people. This year’s ICU Day theme is “Find Your Platinum Lining in Credit Unions,” a nod to the event’s 70-year milestone and a celebration of how credit unions help people achieve their biggest goals in life.

To help commemorate ICU Day, individuals positively impacted by PSECU or the credit union movement are encouraged to share their story on social media using #ICUDay and #PlatinumLiningFound.

“International Credit Union Day is an opportunity for us to join more than 89,000 other credit unions in 117 countries to reflect on and commemorate the good work that credit unions are doing all around the world,” added Smith. “I encourage anyone interested in joining PSECU or learning more about the benefits of credit union banking to visit psecu.com.”

ICU Day is presented annually by the Credit Union National Association and the World Council of Credit Unions.

The theme of International Credit Union Day 2018 is “Find Your Platinum Lining in Credit Unions.”
