PSECU reflects on movement’s global impact during International Credit Union Day

HARRISBURG, PA (October 13, 2020) — On October 15, PSECU – Pennsylvania’s anytime, anywhere digital credit union – will join more than 85,000 credit unions around the world in celebration of International Credit Union Day (ICU Day). Held on the third Thursday of October since 1948, the observation recognizes the philosophy, importance, and ongoing achievements of the global credit union movement.

PSECU embraces ICU Day because it believes the not-for-profit structure and people-first principles of credit unions make them the ideal financial institutions for all people. At its most basic level, a credit union is people coming together to pool their money and provide each other with affordable loans – a true representation of the credit union “people helping people” philosophy in action.

“The theme of this year’s ICU Day celebration is ‘Inspiring Hope For A Global Community’,” explained PSECU President and CEO George Rudolph. “2020 has been extremely challenging for many, and now more than ever, people need hope. PSECU and other credit unions around the world strive to be a positive beacon for our members and to empower them to build a brighter future through our products and services, education programming, employee volunteerism, and the financial support we offer community organizations.”

ICU Day is presented annually by the Credit Union National Association and the World Council of Credit Unions

“Each year we come together to celebrate International Credit Union Day to raise awareness about what it means for members around the world to have a credit union as their financial partner,” explains the Credit Union National Association’s website. “This year’s global health crisis has been trying for many communities around the world, but credit unions stayed true to their cooperative principles and stepped up during this time of economic uncertainty. Hope is a global resource that everyone has a right to feel and experience.”

“To anyone interested in joining PSECU or learning more about the benefits of credit union banking, I encourage you to visit psecu.com,” Rudolph added.
