Raider Pride Student Credit Union celebrated grand opening on February 17th

DECATUR, MI (February 18, 2015) — Honor Credit Union is excited to bring the benefits of the student credit union movement to Decatur Public Schools with Raider Pride Student Credit Union! Raider Pride SCU is the student credit union at Davis Elementary School within Decatur Public Schools. Raider Pride SCU celebrated its grand opening with a ribbon cutting, cake, and refreshments on Tuesday, February 17th.

Raider Pride SCU is Honor Credit Union’s sixteenth student credit union overall, and the first student credit union in Decatur. With the supervision of Honor’s Decatur branch team, Raider Pride SCU will be ran by the fourth and fifth grade students of Davis Elementary. With rewards for making deposits, students will learn first-hand how valuable and fun saving can be at any age. In addition to promoting financial literacy skills, Raider Pride SCU will “employ” the fourth and fifth grade students in roles including tellers, managers, and marketing, teaching valuable life skills such as responsibility, organization, and creativity. Raider Pride SCU will be open for deposits every Tuesday afternoon during lunch.

“We are so grateful for the opportunity to bring the benefits of student credit unions to Decatur,” comments Lou Queen, Honor Credit Union Decatur branch manager. “Watching the kids engage and get excited as they learn about saving money and have fun all at the same time has been so rewarding!”
