Redwood Credit Union helps community shred 28 tons of confidential documents

Nearly 1,400 Attend RCU’s 2013 Annual Shred-a-Thon Security Events

SANTA ROSA & SAN RAFAEL, CA (September 24, 2013)Redwood Credit Union (RCU) recently hosted two free document shredding events in their local communities. More than 900 people attended RCU’s annual Santa Rosa Shred-a-Thon, held at the company’s main offices on Cleveland Avenue, and nearly 500 were served at the credit union’s inaugural Marin Shred-a-Thon, held at San Rafael High School.

More than 28 tons of confidential documents were shred at the two events combined, and several truckloads of e-waste such as old televisions, computers and printers were also collected for recycling. Additionally, attendees contributed nearly 3,000 pounds of canned food and $170 in cash donations to benefit the Redwood Empire, and San Francisco/Marin Food Banks. A free educational seminar on Credit & Debit Card Fraud Prevention was presented at the Santa Rosa event by RCU’s Loss Recovery Department, providing tips and information about the latest trends in fraud and identity theft, and how to protect confidential information.

RCU partnered with Cintas, Integrity Shred, and InfoStor for the document shredding, as well as Computer Recycling Center, Santa Rosa Recycling & Collection  and Marin Computer Resource Center for e-waste collection.

“Our Members and communities have enjoyed the convenience of this free service in Santa Rosa for several years,” said Robin McKenzie, RCU Senior Vice President. “We are thrilled to have expanded our shredding and e-waste event to Marin County this year,” added McKenzie.
